Fran Brown - Associate Therapist

Fran Brown has a Master of Education Degree from the University of Hartford, Connecticut, a Diploma in the Education of Children with Learning Disorders and a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of British Columbia.

She is a Registered Professional Counselor with the Canadian Professional Counseling Association and since 1975, a participant and teacher of Re-Evaluation Counseling theory and practice.

As a graduate of Clearmind International Institute, Fran's training includes studies in Bowen Family Systems, Carl Rogers, Gestalt, Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Transpersonal Psychology based on "A Course in Miracles", (ACIM), with a "miracle" being defined as a shift in perception.

With thirty years background in Re-evaluation Counseling, Fran has counseled, taught and facilitated the recovery and empowerment of diverse groups of peoples and individuals of all ages and backgrounds from the effects of emotional, psychological and physical hurts.

Re-evaluation Counseling is a theory and practice that postulates that people are born with unlimited amounts of flexible intelligence, allowing us to create successful responses to our environment. Because of emotional and physical hurts that accumulate throughout our lives, increasing amounts of our flexible intelligence becomes unavailable to us. The goal of Re-evaluation is to regain use of this intelligence as well as of our naturally affectionate nature and zestful attitude towards life. Through cathartic processes which involve an exchange of "listening from the heart" skills, the residue of the distress experiences begins to dissolve, allowing our original nature and intelligence to re-emerge.

Fran worked as a Learning Assistance Teacher in the North Vancouver Schools and a teacher in a Democratic Alternative Education Program for many years. She has facilitated problem solving and conflict resolution and has counseled, encouraged and supported students, parents, teachers and support group workers through a multitude of personal and professional challenges.

Fran grew up in her family as a middle child with an older sister whose mental health problems and behaviour became the family focus. Fran's way of coping was to become the peace maker, which essentially left her feeling isolated and unsupported. We all learn our roles from our Family of Origin and then perpetuate them in our lives. Our way of dealing with anxiety is also learned. We can either act in (TV/Email, numbing out, eating disorders) or act out (drugs/addiction, sex, pornography, gossiping, violence) as a way to avoid our anxiety. Fran learned that psychological pain is a reflection of the wounds and limiting beliefs of our childhood. Once transformed, these obstacles can become a source of spiritual guidance and healing. Not only is Fran committed to this transformation in her own life but also with her clients.

Fran helps her clients to gain awareness of their way of coping with family dynamics and how this keeps them in a state of anxiety rather than opening to the possibility of choosing something new. She believes that we have all the resource we need within and as we discover and turn more and more to our authentic voice, our goal of having a life of love, connection and purpose becomes attainable.

Fran brings a gentle loving presence and intuitive understanding to her counseling practice. She is passionate about awakening the human spirit and believes that beneath our fears lies a loving connection with all. She is passionate about supporting others to discover the light within them that can illuminate the path toward their goals and dreams.
